Ed. S. Educational Specialist in School Psychology
The Educational Specialist in School Psychology - School Psychologist Certification (Ed. S.) is an advanced degree that enables the candidate to develop practitioner expertise in psychological, educational, professional and related areas. Candidates hone skills in assessment, consultation, counseling and intervention to prepare to work with children and adolescents, parents, guardians, teacher and other educational professionals in a school setting. Upon completion of the Ed. S., candidates are eligible for New Jersey Department of Education certification as a school psychologist. Rowan University Ed. S. graduates may also apply to become a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) through the National Association of School Psychologists. The New Jersey Department of Education (NJ DOE), not Rowan University, grants certifications based on requirements set by the state. While coursework for this program meets the academic requirements for NJ DOE certification, it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that all other certification requirements are met, including, but not limited to, appropriate type and level of license and years of experience. To earn the Ed. S. School Psychologist certificate, a candidate must complete all courses, a school-based 300 hour practicum and a school-based 1200-hour externship/internship.

The following is a list of items required to begin the application process for the program. There may be additional action or materials required for admission to the program. Upon receipt of the materials below a representative from the Rowan Global Admissions Processing Office will contact you with confirmation or indicating any missing items.
Master's degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited institution of higher learning
Official transcripts from all colleges attended (regardless of number of credits earned)
Current professional resume
Typewritten statement of professional objectives: Tell us about how you might use this program to advance your career. Educational goals beyond the master's level, if applicable, are also relevant.
Two letters of recommendation
Recommended minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (On a 4.0 scale)
Interview (Students will be contacted directly by the Faculty Admissions Committee regarding the interview. The interview can be in person or via telephone.)
On-site writing sample (conducted during Interview)
Successful completion of the M.A. in School Psychology, another specialized area of Psychology, or related field
Those graduate students completing the M.A. in School Psychology at Rowan University do not need to complete the following when applying for the Ed.S. in School Psychology: a) statement of personal objectives ; b) letters of recommendation; c) interview; d) on-site writing sample or e) pay the application fee.

Submitting the Application Form is only the first step to beginning the admission process. All of the required materials listed above must be received on or before the application completion deadline for your desired entry term to be considered for admission to that term. We encourage you to complete the application form and begin submitting your materials at least one month before the deadline indicated.
