M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering

The Master of Science in Engineering (M.S.E.) program at Rowan University effectively prepares individuals to respond to the changing needs of engineers today. This program provides students with the necessary knowledge, skill set, and training to effectively contribute to the engineering workforce. Students have access to higher level courses leading to a graduate degree, and are involved in professional development opportunities which increase the breadth of understanding and application of engineering principles.

Students can choose between a thesis track, and a coursework track. Students may also work on a project, which may be counted toward a coursework track degree. Most full time students work on funded research projects, leading to a thesis. Most part time students select the coursework track. In order to be eligible for a Research Fellowship, students must select the thesis track.

The Electrical & Computer Engineering specialization gives students an opportunity to expand their skill sets in advanced topics of interest. Specialization areas include signal & image processing, computational intelligence and pattern recognition, power systems and renewable energy, discrete event systems, and virtual reality systems. This specialization also includes the following focus areas: Bioengineering; Signals, Systems and Computational Intelligence; and Sustainability.

Curriculum

The Rowan University Master of Science in Engineering program requires the completion of 30 semester hours (s.h.) and thesis research/engineering project. 6–9 of the required semester hours can be Thesis Research/Engineering Project.

    • Approved Business Course (3 s.h.)
  • Specialization Courses: 12-21 semester hours (s.h.)
    • Choose 12 s.h. for the thesis track or 15-21 s.h. for the non-thesis track. Selection of approved courses requires consultation with the Academic Advisor. Not all courses will be offered every year and other options may be available.

Admissions Requirements

The following is a list of items required to begin the application process for the program. There may be additional action or materials required for admission to the program. Upon receipt of the materials below a representative from the Rowan Global Admissions Processing Office will contact you with confirmation or indicating any missing items.

  • Foundation Courses (eligible applicants must have successfully completed the following undergraduate foundation courses at an accredited institution prior to admission):

    • Physics I
    • Calculus I
    • Calculus II
    • Calculus II
    • Linear Algebra
    • Differential Equations
    • At least one of the following:
      • Physics II
      • Chemistry I
      • Probability & Statistics
    • The graduate program advisor may specify additional required undergraduate-level coursework to supplement the applicant’s background before taking any graduate courses.
  • $65 (U.S.) non-refundable application fee

  • Bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited institution of higher learning

  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended (regardless of number of credits earned)

  • Current professional resume

  • Typewritten statement of professional objectives

    • Provide reasons for pursuing the program. Describe how you might use this program to advance your career (educational goals beyond the master's level, if applicable, are also relevant).
  • Two letters of recommendation

    • Letters of recommendation should be from professional administrators and include information, which attests to applicant's ability to pursue a graduate degree
  • Minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)

  • Optional Interview (If an interview is required, students will be contacted directly by the Faculty Admissions Committee regarding the interview. The interview can be in person or via telephone.)
